“For example, the British A-levels curriculum allows for specialization starting in high school. In the final two years, students focus on a minimum of three subjects, which they select based on their interests, strengths, and the field they wish to pursue at the university. It is important to note that Romanian students can study in English in many countries beyond those where English is the national language”, states Raluca Niculae, manager of the IntegralEdu International Camps and High Schools Department.
On the other hand, when choosing a high school abroad, great attention is paid to the extracurricular activities offered, which facilitate the exploration of various academic and vocational fields.
“Admission to elite high schools abroad has become more competitive after the pandemic and as a result, preparation for admission must be started early. After a long period of online study, the interest in international schools has increased significantly. The number of candidates per place at the selective schools also increased, as well as the degree of difficulty of admission. Candidates take admission tests depending on the class they are applying for and the educational program they want to follow. Thus, they are tested in foreign language, mathematics, and sometimes sciences, depending on the profile of the high school. They can also be given specific tests to identify cognitive, verbal, non-verbal and numerical skills, and also undergo admission interviews. In this context, the role of the educational consultant becomes very important both in the early identification of the suitable high school and in the preparation of admission. It is recommended that the admission preparation begins at least one year before the departure to study abroad, with preliminary tests administered by IntegralEdu experts, interview preparation, visiting pre-selected campuses, participation in educational camps to familiarize the candidate with the school and the study program “, explains Raluca Niculae, manager of the IntegralEdu International Camps and High Schools Department.
Scholarships awarded by high schools can cover and even exceed 50% of the annual fees, in some cases
Annually, most independent schools and colleges allocate budgets to offer merit scholarships to candidates with proven special abilities on admission and throughout their studies. The number of scholarships varies starting from 5% discount on tuition fees reaching and even exceeding 50% discount on annual fees, in some cases.
Fair attendees can learn about scholarships provided by some of the participating high schools in partnership with IntegralEdu. Additionally, those who start the admission process immediately after the fair can benefit from a waiver of the application fee. These opportunities are an excellent way for students to apply to prestigious high schools while saving on costs and receiving the necessary support throughout the admissions process.
The types of merit scholarships are academic, athletic or artistic and are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding performance in one of these areas. The academic scholarship is offered after testing the candidate in one, two or even all the subjects he is going to study, depending on the study program and the school. For the sports scholarship, the competitive record of the candidate is taken into account in addition to the sports trials, and for the awarding of the artistic scholarships, the candidate’s portfolio is very important. In addition, some institutions grant financial aid to very well-prepared students, to facilitate their access to a quality education.
“An increasing number of boarding schools are providing international students with the chance to experience campus life, including courses and facilities, through academic integration programs. These programs allow students to attend classes with local students and stay on campus for a few days or up to several weeks. The high schools attending the fair will share details about the scholarships and financial aid programs available for the 2025-2026 academic year “, states Raluca Niculae, manager of the IntegralEdu International Camps and High Schools Department.
Tuition fees for independent high schools in the UK start from £12,000/year and can reach up to £35,000/year, costs depending on the year of study and, in some cases, the number of subjects. The fees for full board differ depending on many factors: the age of the child, the type of accommodation (on campus, student residence, host family), the type of room chosen (individual or shared, with private bathroom or shared bathroom). In Spain, the annual tuition fees of independent high schools start from approx. 8,800 EUR, in Ireland from approx. 4970 EUR, and in Germany from approx. 17,500 EUR.
