Sarajevo among Europe’s 14 best Winter Destinations!

Sarajevo among Europe’s 14 best Winter Destinations!

The magazine TimeOut enlisted travel writers to create a list of Europe’s best winter destinations, and the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) earned a spot on it.

Explaining that certain European destinations are even better during the winter season, they noted that the top winter locations on the continent “have it all” – from Italian gourmet tours to the official home of Santa Claus.

Topping the list is Venice, followed by Grindelwald (Switzerland), Innsbruck (Austria), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Madrid (Spain), and Manchester (United Kingdom).

Sarajevo ranks seventh on the list, with TimeOut describing it as ideal for affordable skiing and curious vibes.

“Sarajevo has quietly developed into one of the best winter destinations on the planet, combining quality snow activities with a unique multicultural atmosphere in the old center. The former takes place on the surrounding mountains, as facilities from the 1984 Winter Olympics are being revitalized (skiing on Jahorina or Bjelasnica is extremely affordable), while the streets of Bascarsija shine brightest when paired with a hat, gloves, and scarf. A shot or two of rakija will help you handle the cold, and Bosnian cuisine is practically designed for the colder months,” they wrote in their description of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) capital.

The remainder of the list includes Copenhagen (Denmark), Lapland (Finland), Riga (Latvia), Paris (France), Arachova (Greece), Reykjavik (Iceland), and Antwerp (Belgium).

It’s worth noting that Sarajevo was recently named the best destination in Europe according to National Geographic readers.
