Helez and Derighetti: Switzerland will continue to support BiH on its Euro-Atlantic Path

Yesterday, the Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH), Zukan Helez, received Gabriele Derighetti, the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to BiH, during an official visit.

Helez highlighted the fact that the current President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd, visited BiH twice during her tenure as Minister of Defense, Civil Protection, and Sports of Switzerland, underscoring the friendly relations between the two countries.

“We highly value your country’s role as a member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, demonstrated through its interest and commitment to ensuring peace and stability in this part of Europe, as well as your support for BiH’s strategic security and foreign policy goals. In this regard, we also welcome your continued engagement in the EUFOR Althea mission in BiH,” Helez stated.

The Minister emphasized that Switzerland is now among BiH’s most significant partners in terms of bilateral cooperation.

During the talks, he reiterated that the political goals of BiH remain European Union (EU) and NATO membership, noting that thanks to the member states of these international organizations, BiH has a clear path forward.

Ambassador Derighetti expressed gratitude for the hospitality, affirming that the Swiss Confederation will continue to support BiH on its Euro-Atlantic path. He also stated his pride in Swiss soldiers participating in the EUFOR mission in BiH, according to a statement from the BiH Ministry of Defense Public Affairs Office.
