Norway’s men beat Switzerland by 7-4 on Friday evening to claim the bronze medals at the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships.
The score was level at 1-1 as the teams played the fourth end. In that end, Switzerland made a mistake with fourth player Benoit Schwarz–van Berkel’s final draw, to hand Norway a steal of three and a 4-1 lead.

By the seventh end, Norway led by 5-2, and, when Schwarz-van Berkel’s attempted triple take-out could only score a single point, Switzerland reduced the Norwegian lead to 5-3.

However, Norway responded in the eighth when their skip Magnus Ramsfjell attempted a take-out. He was only able to score one point to give his team a 6-3 lead.
By the tenth end, Norway led by 6-4 when skip Ramsfjell took out two Swiss stones to score one more point and win the game – and the bronze medals – by 7-4.

Afterwards, a delighted Magnus Ramsfjell said, “The boys played really well, we made some key shots to make them play the tough ones and were rewarded for it.”
He also reflected, “This means a ton. One of our goals is to become the new team Ulsrud [former Norway national team], the team you see at every event, the team that medals consistently. This is the first step of the way, and I’m very proud.”
The bronze medal winning Norwegian team are skip Magnus Ramsfjell, third Martin Sesaker, second Bendik Ramsfjell and lead Gaute Nepstad, supported by alternate Naess Wilhelm and coach Thomas Loevold.
B-Division update
In B-Division action, the women’s semi-finalists are now set. Round robin winners Czechia will take on fourth-placed Poland, and second-placed Germany will face third-ranked Netherlands on Saturday morning.
In the men’s B-Division, Denmark beat Belgium by 4-2 in one qualification game, and now go on to face Spain in Saturday’s semifinals. In the other qualification game, Poland beat Türkiye by 5-4 and now face Ireland in the other semi-final.
In the relegation games, Israel beat Bulgaria by 9-7 in the battle of the group bottom teams, while Wales beat Latvia by 8-3 in the game between the second-bottom ranked group teams. These results mean that Wales are safely back in next year’s B-Division, while Bulgaria are relegated to the C-Division. Israel and Latvia now play each other, with the winner staying in B and the loser going to the C-Division.
