BRUSSELS. Nov 27 (Interfax) – The new European Commission will be working on Ukraine’s entry into the European Union, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

“We want Ukraine as part of our European Union. We will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes,” von der Leyen said, as she nominated European Commission candidates for confirmation by the European Parliament at the plenary session on Wednesday.

The European Commission will help Ukraine, Moldova and West Balkan states to prepare for entry into the EU and will hold the necessary reforms, she said.

“Europe’s commitments to these countries will always be stronger. […] We will support these countries every step of the way on the merits based process until they are ready to join our union,” von der Leyen said.

She added that Slovenia’s Marta Kos will be in charge of EU enlargement at the new European Commission.
