The Belgian company Puratos, which has been operating in Serbia for 30 years, today inaugurated a factory in Kragujevac. An investment of 7 million euros was made in the construction and equipping of the new production facility for margarine and powdered products, creating 15 new jobs.

This investment is expected to further strengthen Puratos’ presence in Serbia and represents a significant step towards the development of the local economy and the bakery, confectionery, and chocolate industries.

“We are extremely proud that the new factory will enable the production of an expanded range of even higher quality products for our customers,” said Aleksandra Radičević, Director General of Puratos in Serbia.

Pierre Tossut, Director of the Puratos Group, stated that the new modern facility and expanded production capacities “position the company as a key player in this sector in the Western Balkans.”

It was noted that only local subcontractors were engaged during the construction phase. The factory is equipped with modern technology that enables an annual reduction in energy consumption equivalent to that of 100 households in Serbia, while carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced to levels equivalent to the annual emissions of 40 diesel cars travelling 30,000 kilometres each.

The production line for margarine is fully automated. According to the company, this technology supports the use of advanced packaging, including HDPE blue foil, which better preserves product quality and enhances safety.

Additionally, new packaging has been introduced for powdered products, made from unbleached paper and aligned with Puratos’ global sustainability standards.

The factory in Kragujevac is part of the international Puratos Group from Belgium, which employs over 10,000 people across 84 offices and 74 factories worldwide, supplying bakery, confectionery, and chocolate industry products to 135 countries.
