Miljan Zdrale Named EBRD Regional Director for Central Europe and Head of Croatia

(IN BRIEF) The EBRD has appointed Miljan Zdrale as Regional Director for Central Europe and Head of Croatia, effective January 2025. With over 20 years of experience at the EBRD, including his current role as Regional Head of Agribusiness for South-Eastern Europe, Zdrale brings a strong track record in business development and policy delivery. He succeeds Mark Davis, now Managing Director for the SEMED region. The EBRD, a major investor in Croatia with over €4.8 billion in investments, continues to prioritize private-sector growth, capital market development, and public enterprise commercialisation in the region.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 4-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced the appointment of Miljan Zdrale as Regional Director for Central Europe, effective 1 January 2025. Based in Croatia, Mr. Zdrale will oversee EBRD operations across Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, the Slovak Republic, and Slovenia, while also serving as the Head of Croatia. He succeeds Mark Davis, who has recently taken on the role of Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region.

With a career at the EBRD spanning over two decades, Mr. Zdrale brings extensive expertise and a track record of success. Currently serving as Regional Head of Agribusiness for South-Eastern Europe, he has been instrumental in driving business growth and policy initiatives across 11 countries. His efforts have led to the development of innovative project structures, contributing to €200–300 million in annual business investments in the region. Mr. Zdrale’s earlier roles at the EBRD include working on municipal infrastructure and tourism projects, and later advancing to leadership positions within the Agribusiness team in London.

Charlotte Ruhe, EBRD Managing Director for Central and South-Eastern Europe, expressed confidence in his appointment, stating, “Miljan’s extensive experience, strong business networks, and proven leadership will significantly enhance the Bank’s impact and success in Central Europe.”

The EBRD is a leading investor in Croatia, having contributed over €4.8 billion across various projects. The Bank’s priorities in the country include boosting private-sector competitiveness, advancing capital market development, and supporting the commercialisation of public enterprises. Alongside its investments, the EBRD actively fosters policies that create a more business-friendly environment.

Mr. Zdrale’s appointment underscores the EBRD’s commitment to driving economic growth and fostering sustainable development across Central Europe, with a continued focus on strengthening its presence and impact in Croatia and the wider region.
