The Banker, a Financial Times publication, has recognised UniCredit’s global leadership for the second year running, naming it Global Bank of the Year, European Bank of the Year and Italian Bank of the Year at its annual ceremony in London last night. UniCredit was also named Bank of the Year in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Considered an industry benchmark for banking excellence, The Banker’s Bank of the Year Awards evaluate the world’s leading financial institutions based on their ability to generate returns, achieve strategic advantage and serve their markets.
The Banker magazine, part of the Financial Times Group, provides business and financial information for the global financial sector and has built a reputation for objective and in-depth reporting since its founding in 1926.
Commenting on the awards won by UniCredit, Silvia Pavoni, editor-in-chief of The Banker, said: “The Banker rarely awards the same banking group two years in a row, but UniCredit’s consistently strong performance and growing ambition could not be ignored. Its financial results, both for 2023 and the first part of 2024, are truly remarkable, as are its smart partnerships over the years and its investments across Europe. Its efforts to streamline processes and improve its digital offering were further reasons to recognize UniCredit as the overall winner of our Bank of the Year award.”
In recent years, UniCredit has worked tirelessly on its cultural and industrial transformation, engaging in a fundamental change to redefine its future, with the ambition of becoming the bank for the future of Europe.
Commenting on the awards, Andrea Orcel, CEO of UniCredit, said: “We are proud of these results, which recognise, for the second year, the success of UniCredit Unlocked, the plan that has transformed UniCredit into a market-leading bank in just three years, making it a new benchmark for the sector in Europe. We take this opportunity to thank all the people of UniCredit who, through their hard work and dedication to our customers and their communities, have made this possible and will continue to do so”.
With 15 million customers across 13 markets in Europe, UniCredit remains committed to supporting its customers, employees and communities to progress and to facilitate customers in a just and equitable green transition, with the aim of ensuring lasting growth and prosperity.
