BRUSSELS. Dec 20 (Interfax) – The European Council discussed the situation in the energy sector of Moldova, which has EU candidate status, at its meeting in Brussels on Thursday, instructing the European Commission to provide urgent assistance to the Moldovan energy sector.

“The European Council invites the commission to look urgently into further ways to provide assistance to the Republic of Moldova in strengthening its energy security,” the European Council said in its conclusions after the summit.

It earlier called for further steps to integrate Moldova’s power grid into that of the EU.
