On 11-12 December, the Department for the Execution of Judgments carried out a mission to Nicosia, organised in close cooperation with the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus and other relevant authorities, to discuss and promote various aspects related to the implementation of the European Court’s judgments pending against Cyprus.

The delegation participated in meetings focusing on the status of execution, current obstacles, and future perspectives in cases pending before the Committee of Ministers, concerning notably the length of judicial proceedings (Altius Insurance LTD case, and Foutas Aristidou group), conditions of detention in prisons (Danilczuk case), conditions of detention pending deportation (Khanh group), asylum-seekers’ detention and its speedy review (B.A. group), and the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) and national human rights institution (NHRIs) in this process.

The delegation met with the Attorney General of the Republic and representatives from the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus, the Supreme Court, the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, the Cyprus Prisons Department, the Police, and the Ministry of Migration and International Protection. The delegation also held meetings with representatives from CSOs, as well as the Office of the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights.
