The countries of the European Union are ready to stop the supply of Russian gas, which came to Europe in transit through Ukraine.
This is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the statement of the official representative of the European Commission Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.
According to her, the termination of transit supplies was expected, so the European Union, despite the fears of some European countries, prepared for this.
According to Itkonen, the European Commission has been working for more than a year to “provide alternative supplies for the affected member states.”
As EADaily reported earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that stopping Russian gas supplies through Ukraine would cost Europe in 2025-2026 huge losses totaling 120 billion euros.
He also threatened the Ukrainian authorities with stopping the supply of electricity in case of refusal of transit of Russian gas through the territory of the republic.
