The Ministry of Transport has ordered the Council of Latvian national airBaltic airline to immediately explain the sudden decision to cancel numerous flights and their possible impact on Latvia’s international connectivity, according to the entry from Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens on X (formerly Twitter).
The minister stresses in his social network post that the airline management’s reluctance to publicly explain their decision is unacceptable.
At the same time, the minister reminds that the management of airBaltic – including airBaltic CEO Martin Gauss and Council Chairman Klāvs Vasks – have a duty to implement their promises about attracting EUR 300 million for their plan, as well as ensure airBaltic operations meet Latvia’s and passengers’ interests.
As previously reported, airBaltic has announced the cancellation of 4 670 flights on 19 of its routes this summer season. The reason given for this is lengthy engine maintenance.
