Bratislav Živković, a Serbian mercenary declared persona non grata in Romania in 2017 for espionage in favor of Russia, has been killed during battles in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.

Details: Pro-Russian Telegram channels confirmed Živković’s death, claiming he died “in fierce battles for the liberation of Kursk Oblast”. The Serbian government has yet to comment on the reports.

Živković had been fighting for Russia against Ukraine since 2014 as the leader of a Serbian nationalist paramilitary organization, the Chetniks.

In 2017, he was expelled from Romania by court order for espionage after taking photos of military radars on the Black Sea coast and providing their GPS coordinates to Russian contacts.

A year later, he was incarcerated in Serbia on grounds of participating in military operations for a foreign state, but he was later released.

Ukraine had also opened a criminal case against Živković for recruiting foreigners to fight against Ukraine.

Background: In Finland, Voislav Torden (Yan Petrovsky), the founder and former commander of the Russian paramilitary group Rusich, is currently on trial for committing war crimes in eastern Ukraine.
