How Supercoppa Italiana prize money compares to the rest of Europe

That €16.2m figure is larger than any of Europe’s other divisions for their equivalent competitions.

The Supercopa de Espana is the closest to the Supercoppa Italiana both in terms of format and prize money. Four LaLiga sides will also play a mini-tournament in Saudi Arabia in January for a total prize pot of €12m.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are already guaranteed to earn €3.1m each, while Athletic Club will take home €1.7m, and €0.75m  will go to Mallorca. There will also be an additional €2m for the winner and €1m for the runners up.

The DFL Supercup, the German equivalent, is played before the season begins. Two teams compete: The reigning Bundesliga and DFB Pokal champions. €5m was divided between the two teams this season: Bayer Leverkusen took home €3m, while runners up VfB Stuttgart claimed €2m.

The French equivalent, the Trophee des Champions, was played on Sunday in Doha. PSG, as 1-0 winners, took home €2m in prize money, while Monaco claimed €1m.

There is no official prize money in the English equivalent, the Community Shield. Traditionally, all match proceeds, including from TV rights, sponsors and ticket sales, are donated to charities selected by the participating clubs.
