Bratislava has not responded to Prague’s proposal to provide Czech facilities for gas transportation and storage. This was stated by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Lukas Vlcek.
He recalled that at the end of 2024, he offered his Slovak colleagues to use the Czech infrastructure after the termination of gas transit to Slovakia via Ukraine. At the same time, the minister did not rule out the possibility that Russian gas will continue to flow to the Czech Republic through the western part of the country, despite the closure of the eastern route.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic reported that their proposal is valid for the start of deliveries to Slovakia from the spring of 2025, as well as in the longer term. At the same time, it is emphasized that if necessary, the Czech gas infrastructure is ready to immediately begin transporting gas to the east.
Recall, from January 1, 2025, Ukraine stopped transporting gas from Russia to the EU and Moldova. Kiev has decided not to renew the transit contract with Gazprom. This caused outrage in a number of EU countries, primarily in Slovakia. Bratislava threatened Kiev with retaliatory measures.
