The Russian authorities and the leadership of Moldova’s breakaway region of Transnistria are reportedly exploring a plan to supply gas to the region through purchases on the European spot market, facilitated by an intermediary company, with the costs covered by Russia’s federal budget, Kommersant reports.
Sources told Kommersant that under the proposed arrangement, up to three million cubic meters of gas would be purchased daily from January to April. Kommersant estimates the total cost for this period could reach $164 million.
On Wednesday, Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky announced that Russia would supply gas to the region as humanitarian aid but did not provide details on how the assistance would be delivered.
