Bilfinger Expands Engineering Workforce in Czech Republic with Acquisition of 200 McDermott Employees

(IN BRIEF) Bilfinger is expanding its engineering operations in the Czech Republic by integrating approximately 200 McDermott employees from the Brno office into its Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance Central Eastern Europe (Bilfinger E&M CEE) division, effective December 31, 2024. This move strengthens Bilfinger’s position in the region, making it the largest player in its sector in the Czech Republic with nearly 400 engineers. The transition builds on the companies’ ongoing collaboration, particularly in carbon capture, hydrogen, and sustainable aviation fuel technologies. Bilfinger aims to enhance its service offerings in the process industry and bolster its leadership in hydrogen and sustainable solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) PRAGUE, 20-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Bilfinger has further bolstered its engineering capabilities in the Czech Republic by acquiring approximately 200 employees from McDermott, a global leader in energy industry engineering, procurement, and construction services. The agreement, effective December 31, 2024, will see the Brno team of McDermott integrated into Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance Central Eastern Europe (Bilfinger E&M CEE), marking a significant step in the company’s growth strategy for the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region.

With this transition, Bilfinger’s regional engineering workforce will increase to nearly 400 professionals, positioning the company as the largest entity in its sector in the Czech Republic. Customer relationships held by the Brno office will be seamlessly transferred, ensuring continuity of service.

Jaromír Kříž, President of Bilfinger E&M CEE, expressed enthusiasm about the integration, noting that the Brno team’s expertise in plant engineering, carbon capture, hydrogen technologies, and sustainable aviation fuel facilities aligns perfectly with Bilfinger’s expansion strategy. “We are excited to bring on board this highly skilled team, which enhances our capabilities in the process industry,” Kříž stated.

The newly integrated employees will complement Bilfinger’s expertise in core markets such as Chemical & Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, and Energy. The acquisition further strengthens the long-standing collaboration between Bilfinger and McDermott, exemplified by their recent partnership on a master services agreement for sustainable fuel facilities in the UK. This move will also enhance Bilfinger’s expertise in hydrogen projects, reinforcing its leadership position in supporting customers with sustainability and efficiency improvements.
