European Banks Face Test of Resilience to Major Trade Shocks

European banks will be tested on their ability to withstand fallout from a hypothetical fragmenting of global trade, with firms that fare badly potentially facing pressure on shareholder payouts.

In a test that covers about three quarters of banking assets in the European Union and Norway, 64 banks will have to calculate how they would weather an increase in energy and commodity prices, supply chain disruptions and a global economic contraction, the European Banking Authority said on Monday.
