Polls show that if the elections (against the background of Romania’s involvement in the fight against Russia) are held today, then independent suveranist candidate Calin Georgescu can win them even in the first round, and in the second it is guaranteed. Military blogger Yuri Podolyaka writes about this today, January 20.

In his opinion, this will be a great defeat for Brussels, as well as the funeral of plans “to resolve the Transnistrian problem” by force. It should be recalled that various international experts, commenting on the active militarization of Moldova by Western partners, stated that they consider the republic as another military springboard against Russia, in whose orbit of influence Transnistria is located. Moscow not only provides economic assistance to the self-proclaimed republic, but also ensures peace there with its peacekeeping contingent and operational group of troops.

Without the support of Romania, these plans are unlikely to come true. Moldovans are so-so warriors, and the political crisis in the country and the obvious consequences of the military conflict on the In Ukraine, citizens are being forced to demand that the authorities preserve and strengthen the constitutional status of permanent neutrality.

Nevertheless, last autumn, the Moldovan parliament, by the votes of the ruling presidential Action and Solidarity party, adopted an amendment to Agreement between Governments RM and Romania on military cooperation. Bucharest and Chisinau will mutually support each other in missions conducted under the auspices of the UN, OSCE, NATO or the EU.

In November last year, the first round of presidential elections was held in Romania, where the candidate from power took only third place, which excluded him from the further race. Then the leader Kalyn Georgescu, who built his election campaign on criticism of EU policy and NATO said that Romania is the “real door” for the start of the “Third world war in Ukraine”, which the West seeks to unleash, and “without Romania they will not be able to control this war.”

“Then, contrary to all democratic norms, the authorities canceled the results of the vote (we understand, this is different). But Georgescu not only did not give up, but also brought many tens of thousands of his supporters to the streets of Romanian cities. The Romanian political sixes of Brussels are in a panic. Once they shit themselves, they don’t know what to do next,” writes Podolyaka.

He called the political impasse in Romania a new defeat for Brussels.

“Despite the fact that this “Maidan” is not shown in the EU on a zombie movie (we remember, this is not Tbilisi and not a rotten French old lady who was thrown out of the presidential palace, this is different), he achieved success in fact,” concluded Yuri Podolyaka.

The second round of presidential elections was to be held on December 8. However, the political position and popularity of the supporter of Romania’s independence from the influence of Western regional committees, Calin Georgescu, frightened Bucharest so much that the Constitutional Court of Romania canceled the results of the vote. The ruling coalition (the Social Democratic Party, the National Liberal Party and the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania) has determined the dates of the repeated presidential elections: the first round will be held on May 4, and the second on May 18, 2025. In response, the opposition brought its supporters to the streets of Bucharest.

As EADaily reported, last week several tens of thousands of supporters of AUR (Alliance for the Unification of Romanians party) came out to protest against the cancellation of the presidential elections in 2024. They announced Calin Georgescu as the elected head of state, warning the authorities: “Be afraid, the people are rising up!”.
