The Council of Europe has put the call out for submissions for its third round of series coproduction support funding, with producers from countries including Poland and Norway able to take part.

The initiative has supported 16 series projects since its launch in 2023 with the goal of supporting high-quality series structured as international coproductions. This year’s submission deadline is set for April 15, 17.00 CET.

Offering a top-up grant of either €250,000 (US$262,201) or €500,000, the call is currently open for producers from Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Spain.

Producers from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czechia, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Norway are also able to submit after their ministries and national agencies came on board to support the final edition in the three-year pilot.

It now has 21 member states, supported by 22 ministries and national agencies, after an initial 14 organisations were on board for the launch of the three-year pilot programme in 2023.

The grant is intended for coproductions of audiovisual works in the form of series between independent producers from the participating countries and those in other European cinema support fund Eurimages member states, encouraging close collaboration with broadcasters and/or streaming services.

Among the projects supported in the previous funding rounds are This Is Not a Murder Mystery, Arcanes, Favàritx, Greater Adria, Puberty and Interstellar Ella.

The Council of Europe was founded in 1949 and brings together 46 member states and operates with an annual budget of about €500m to uphold human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe.

Further details on support programmes for series coproduction beyond 2025 will be announced in the second half of the year, the Council of Europe said.
