The Italian Consumer Protection Association Codacons has filed a complaint with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) demanding that the Estonian song Espresso macchiato be excluded from the list of participants in the Eurovision 2025 international song contest. This is reported by the portal Today.it .

The organization believes that “they cannot but express doubts about the expediency of allowing a song that is offensive to many people to participate in the contest, which is being watched by the public all over the world.”

The track has already caused numerous outraged reactions of citizens and the media regarding its content.

“The text contains stereotypes about Italy and Italians associated with the usual cliches about coffee and spaghetti, but above all with the mafia and ostentatious luxury, and which allows you to convey the idea that these people are doubly associated with organized crime,” the text of the appeal says.

Codacons also stressed that sexist and offensive songs for women are rightly excluded. However, it does not seem appropriate, “based on the same criteria, to allow a song to participate in Eurovision that offends a country and an entire community, damages the reputation of an entire nation.”

It should be recalled that in the national selection of participants who will represent Estonia at the Eurovision 2025 contest, rap artist Tommy Cash (Thomas Tammemets) won with the song Espresso macchiato. He beat 16 competitors and scored 83% of the audience’s votes.

As EADaily reported, this year the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland, from May 13 to 17. Last year’s contest, which was held in Malmo, Sweden, was won by the representative of this country Nemo with the song The Code.
