A young Slovak dancer, Michaela “Mishena” Stašová, 16, has achieved an impressive milestone by reaching the top eight in the global Red Bull Dance Your Style competition in Mumbai, India, the Refresher.sk website reported. The prestigious event brought together dancers from across the world to showcase their unique styles in one-on-one battles before live audiences.
Her journey began with a victory at the national qualifiers during Slovakia’s Grape open-air music festival, earning her a spot in the Slovak finals in Bratislava. Her blend of hip-hop, house and Afro-dance styles captivated the audience, securing her a place in the world finals.
Representing Slovakia, she became the country’s first dancer to make it into the world’s top eight performers.

The population of Alpine swifts has grown substantially at their sole known breeding site in Slovakia, located in Michalovce. Ornithologists recorded more than twice as many birds this year compared to last.
According to Matej Repel, director of SOS/BirdLife Slovakia, the breeding site, in the town’s SNP housing estate, is the second northernmost location for Alpine swift in Europe.
Repel told the Korzár daily that the number of individuals observed in Michalovce has been growing steadily.
“In 2021, when we recorded the first nesting in Slovakia, we observed a maximum of five individuals at the end of August and in September. In 2022 there were nine, last year 13 and this year as many as 28,” he said.
Is this Slovak the most handsome man in the world?
Another Slovak has made a splash at an international competition, this time the Man of the Year 2024 competition in Thailand.
The Slovak Republic was represented in Chiang Mai by 22-year-old Kevin Mruškovič from Trnava. He won the competition’s overall world title.
Twenty men made it to the finals, with most being presented awards of some kind. However, the jury declared the Slovak the top performer across all categories.
Mruškovič has frequently appeared in fashion shows, representing the Lombardi Fashion House, most recently at the Bratislava Fashion Days in October.
He has also enjoyed success in such competitions before. In 2023, he represented Slovakia at the Mister Fitness SuperModel World competition in Vietnam, where he earned two titles.

Meme of the week
Caption: I will be the president of the peace*. *only on Twitter.
This political meme, published by the satirical account Zomriofficial on Instagram, reflects on recent social media activity by President Peter Pellegrini. The Slovak president, who campaigned against sending weapons to Ukraine before his election in April, expressed support for Slovakia’s neighbour, which has been resisting Russia’s military aggression now for one thousand days. He highlighted Ukraine’s values of courage, patriotism and its fight for principles. However, Pellegrini chose to post in English, and on X (formerly Twitter) – a social media platform that is not widely used in Slovakia.
His post did not appear on other, much more popular networks, such as Facebook or Instagram, and he made no official comments to the Slovak audience on the anniversary of the war. Later, Pellegrini uploaded a video on the 1,000 days of the war in Ukraine. It was in Slovak, but was published by the account of the Ukrainian Embassy.
