Angel di Maria provided two late assists as Benfica came from behind to claim a dramatic victory at Monaco.
On-loan Burnley forward Zeki Amdouni came off the bench to score an 88th-minute winner to break the hearts of 10-man Monaco.
Just three minutes earlier, Arthur Cabral had equalised for the visitors with a powerful header from Di Maria’s ball into the box.
The night had started so well for the French side, Eliesse Ben Seghir opening the scoring after finding himself in the right place at the right time following a drilled strike from Vanderson.
Benfica made it 1-1 when Vangelis Pavlidis capitalised on some woeful Monaco defending to prod the ball beyond Radoslaw Majecki.
After Wilfried Singo was given his marching orders for two bookings in the 58th minute, Soungoutou Magassa put the hosts into a 2-1 lead, before Benfica’s stunning climax to the game.
The win for Bruno Lage’s side ends a run of two defeats as they move up to 14th in the Champions League table, with Monaco dropping to eighth.
