“Dirty, lack of toilets, no healthy food options, low ceiling – which makes you feel a bit claustrophobic.
“Lack of kids friendly spaces. If it weren’t for plenty of KLM direct routes I would definitely avoid this wanna be airport.”
The airport, though, looks set to address some of its passengers’ concerns after announcing a huge investment to upgrade Schiphol’s facilities.
Schiphol’s management announced in August it was planning to invest a whopping £4.96billion (€6bn) over the next five years.
The investment will be the biggest in its history and aims to radically improve infrastructure, working conditions and passenger service.
The airport was built as one large terminal, which is split into three departure halls.
Important parts of the airport infrastructure – including Pier C, the baggage basement, climate-control systems, escalators, aircraft stands and taxiways – are due to undergo major maintenance and renewal.
Pier A will also be completed and new construction projects, such as an additional baggage basement, are scheduled to start.
