Details: The Defence Ministry reported that most new volunteers in the Ukrainian Legion reside in Poland, but the group also includes Ukrainian citizens from Denmark, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania and other European countries.

Women have joined the unit for the first time, choosing roles related to medicine and communications.

The Defence Ministry noted that the recruitment centre for the Ukrainian Legion has received approximately 1,300 applications for service.

“We have enlisted more recruits into the unit today than in November. This reflects the growing trust of our citizens in this initiative. We are attracting motivated individuals who are fully aware of their choice,” said Deputy Commander Lieutenant Colonel Petro Horkusha.

The Defence Ministry noted that the group of volunteers departed for one of the Polish Armed Forces’ training centres to undergo basic military training after signing contracts.

The training will be led by Polish instructors and will use modern NATO weapons.

Background:

The establishment of the Ukrainian Legion in Poland was envisaged in the security agreement between the two countries.

As reported in mid-November, the total number of applications to the Ukrainian Legion in Poland had increased to 600.
