Liverpool set the Champions League benchmark at Anfield on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over French side Lille that sealed their place in the competition’s last 16.
Arne Slot’s side managed that with a game to spare and will go through as league phase winners if they avoid defeat at PSV next week.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, have work to do after losing 1-0 at Monaco.
They remain in the final qualification place for the last 16, but could slip down the table following tonight’s results, meaning Villa would face an extra play-off round in the knockout phase if they cannot haul themselves back into the top eight.
Unai Emery’s side host Celtic in their final match of the league phase.
