Their diet is seasonal and entirely dependent on its surroundings. Despite being exceptionally cute and extremely similar to domestic cats, the European wild cat has been referred to as ”impossible to have as a pet”. As it is in most locations across Europe, the extremely shy European wild cat is strictly protected in Croatia.
Known species of wild cats are otherwise divided into three taxonomic groups, both geographically and in appearance, which are quite different:
The forest cat or European wild cat, with three further subspecies
The African wildcat or Falb cat, with nine subspecies
The steppe cat or Asian wildcat with three subspecies
