resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo congratulated former Dutch intelligence chief Dick Schoof for his inauguration as Dutch Prime Minister on Monday, saying he hoped that the two countries would deepen their ties in the future.
Jokowi issued the statement in a message posted on social media platform X on Monday, five days after Schoof’s inauguration.
“Congratulations to Dick Schoof @MinPres on your appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. I look forward to deepening our nations’ strong and enduring partnership,” Jokowi said.
After almost six months of negotiations, the Dutch right-wing coalition agreed last month to form a government coalition and settled for Schoof, a political outsider who is not affiliated with any party, to become prime minister of the new government.
Schoof, 67, was the senior official at the Dutch justice ministry until last month after having led the Dutch intelligence agency AIVD and antiterrorism agency NCTV for years. He was the head of the Dutch immigration service in the early 2000s.
Schoof’s predecessor, Mark Rutte, who traveled four times to Indonesia during his 14-year tenure as prime minister, has now taken up the position of NATO secretary-general, replacing Jens Stoltenberg.
