If launched the new digital system, EES, will impact UK skiers heading to the mountains of Europe this winter. NEW

The Financial Times is reporting that Germany and France are calling for an urgent rethink of plans to roll out the EU’s biometric border on 10th November.

They say the main computer system won’t be able to cope with the new entry exit system.

It will require all non-EU citizens, including British visitors, to register their personal details, including their fingerprints when they first visit EU and Schengen countries.

All the main ski nations of Europe are in the EU or Schengen except Andorra, but the Principality has no airport and so can only be reached via France or Spain that are in the EU.

There are concerns about severe delays and disruption.

We have reported on the issue on PlanetSKI:

Germany’s Interior Ministry is reported to be concerned about the central computer system saying “it still lacks the necessary stability and functionality.”

The European Commission said it was in close contact with member states who were working hard to ensure the system could start on time.
