A Juno-nominated saxophone player who has played and toured with many of Canada’s best jazz musicians is coming to Nanaimo.
The Ryan Oliver Quartet will perform at Simonholt Restaurant on Sunday, Oct. 20. The show will also feature Andrew Janusson on guitar, Tony Genge on keyboard and Joe Poole on drums.
“Ryan is well-known nationally and internationally as one of the leading tenor sax players in North America,” noted a press release from Quadwrangle Music. “Ryan has played with many of Canada’s finest players.”
Oliver has performed at most of Canada’s major jazz festivals, as well as the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. He toured North America, Australia and Europe with the Shuffle Demons, a high-energy Canadian band that blends jazz and funk with stage antics.
The Victoria resident currently teaches saxophone to students across Vancouver Island and instructs student and adult jazz combos.
The Simonholt show Oct. 20 will start at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $25. They can be purchased from the restaurant by calling 250-933-3338, or online at www.quadwranglemusic.com.
