Austria confirms truck dosage at Brenner Pass for 2025

Italy’s appeal to the European Court of Justice against Austria’s restrictions on industrial vehicle transit along the Brenner axis appears to be of little concern to Vienna, as evidenced by Austria’s decision to continue truck dosage on the A12 motorway in 2025. The dosage will, as usual, take place at Kufstein-Kiefersfelden, near the German border. The measure involves halting trucks when traffic reaches a flow of 300 vehicles per hour.

The Tyrol government has announced the specific dosage days for the first quarter of 2025: Tuesday, January 7; Monday, February 3; Monday, February 10; Monday, February 17; Monday, February 24; Monday, March 3; and Monday, March 10. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, there is one fewer dosage day. However, it’s worth noting that in 2024, Easter fell on March 31, whereas in 2025, it will fall later, on April 20. Therefore, additional dosage days might be added in the second quarter.

In 2025, traffic on the Austrian section of the Brenner route will also face disruptions due to construction work on the Lueg Bridge along the A13 motorway, located just after the Italian border. For 170 days, vehicles with a total mass exceeding 3.5 tons will only be allowed to travel on the left lane of the north or southbound carriageways. Additionally, the motorway company Asfinag has announced increased controls on vehicle weight and speed for heavy vehicles.
