Luxembourg – 2023 SCA U18 Women’s Volleyball Championship gold medallists
After the difficult start against Luxembourg, San Marino got back on the winning track and finished the tournament in second place on a 3-1 win-loss record. On Saturday, they beat Northern Ireland 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-13) and Malta 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-20) and, on Sunday, they dropped a set against Ireland, but claimed a 3-1 (25-14, 25-14, 23-25, 25-14) victory to snatch the silver.
The hosts pleased the home crowd with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-13) shutout of Northern Ireland on Friday evening and finished the tournament with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23) win over Ireland in the closing match on Sunday, which was enough for a spot on the podium.
In the only five-setter of the competition, Northern Ireland celebrated a 3-2 (25-12, 25-22, 12-25, 18-25, 15-4) victory in the derby against island neighbours Ireland.
Luxembourg’s Lilly Tarantini was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the championship. Her teammates Tamie Boudot and Lou-Ann Fischbach took the awards for Best Setter and Best Middle Blocker. Alice Pedrelli and Margerita Grossi of San Marino were honoured as Best Opposite and Best Libero, while Malta’s Shania Camilleri was named Best Outside Hitter of the tournament.
