The Bureau of the Saint-Denis Convention (CETS Nº 218) held its 5th meeting in Viseu (Portugal), on 17 October 2024, aiming at preparing the 6th meeting of the Saint-Denis Committee and the 3rd and final meeting of its Ad hoc Working Group on UEFA EURO 2024 (Germany), to take place on 3-4 December in Strasbourg.
Moreover, the Bureau and the Secretariat, representing the Council of Europe, participated in the 2nd edition of the S4 Congress, which was organised in the same city by the Portuguese Authority on the Prevention of and Fight against Sport-related Violence (APCVD), on 16-17 October 2024.
The 2nd edition of the S4 Congress, entitled “Towards Safer and More Welcoming Sports Events”, focused on the importance of the Saint-Denis Convention and the challenges of its implementation at national level. The event gathered around 1200 participants, live and online, including the Portuguese Secretary of State of Sport, the Mayor of Viseu, police and sports authorities, supporter organisations and national and international experts in the field of safety, security and service at sports events.
The Bureau further met with the Mayor of Viseu, which is a 2024 European City of Sport, to discuss on the key role of local authorities in the effective implementation of the Saint-Denis Convention.
