De Jongh, a chartered accountant who lives in an estate on the shore of the Hartbeespoort Dam in Broederstroom, won gold in the Over 55 Men’s trick event. In previous years, he has won three bronze and two silver medals at this championship.
“Preparation was intense training two weeks prior in Paris at the waterski club in Viry Chatillon. The championships represent the best in Europe and Africa. Standards are high and the competition tough,” De Jongh said.
He competed against skiers from France, Ireland, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium.
“This has been one of my most successful competitive seasons.” De Jongh also won the South African Over 55 Men title and was crowned the All Africa Trick Champion at the All Africa Championships this year.
He trains on the Hartbeespoort Dam daily.
