Volvo Trucks and logistic service provider DFDS have long ago benefitted from a partnership that electrified heavy-duty trucks in Europe. In the latest development, DFDS has announced the addition of 10 new Volvo FM Electric trucks to its fleet. The company reveals that the heavy-duty electric trucks will be used to transport goods for the company’s operations in the east and northwest of England and Ireland. Commenting on this milestone, Allan Bell, vice president and head of DFDS Logistics in the UK & Ireland says: “We already have extensive experience operating electric trucks on several European markets, and we will use that experience in the UK.”

DFDS has been a major player in decarbonising Europe as the company provides services in Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. With this new announcement, the company’s fleet now features a total of 115 electric trucks and 110 more are scheduled to be unveiled soon.

It is said that within six months of operations in 2024, the company’s heavy-duty electric trucks travelled over 1.2 million miles thereby decreasing CO2 emissions by 2,112 tonnes. Bell explains: “DFDS wants to drive the transition to low-emission road transport. We are pleased to be deploying electric trucks in the UK, which will enable us to support more companies that want to decarbonise their supply chains. There are still challenges ahead and we need to work together across sectors to be successful, for example in setting up charging infrastructure, but DFDS is committed to doing whatever we can to push the development forward.”

This announcement indicates the company’s dedication to supporting companies looking to decarbonise their supply chains by “working together across sectors.” DFDS seeks to electrify at least 25% of its truck fleet by 2030. To achieve this, the company is cooperating with energy partners to expand charging infrastructure in Europe including Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
