Ford Performance Motorsports in Dearborn is collaborating with Haupt Racing Team (HRT) in Germany for the 2025 racing season to bring the Mustang GT3 to new top-tier European series, including the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) and ADAC Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS).

Ford also signed agreements with South Korea’s LG Energy Solution to produce batteries for its European commercial EVs and to bring production for Mustang Mach-E batteries to Michigan from Poland in 2025.

Ford officials say the time is right for the Mustang GT3 to expand further on the global stage and the partnership with HRT continues to deliver on Ford’s expansion in customer racing to include DTM, Nürburgring Nordschleife and ADAC GT Masters, as well as the SRO-sanctioned Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe and other race events.

“Having a team like HRT join the Ford Performance global family is a significant moment for us,” says Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports. “Haupt Racing Team’s proven success in DTM and other race series is a strong endorsement of the Mustang GT3. This also means that along with our partners at Multimatic and Proton Competition, the Ford Mustang GT3 will now be competing at most of the iconic, 24-hour races at circuits such as Le Mans, Daytona, and Spa.”

Under the EV battery contracts between Ford and LG Energy Solution, the South Korean company is forecasted to supply a total of 109 GWh of batteries to Ford for its European electric commercial vans, starting in 2026 with contract duration ranging from four to six years.

The two companies also agreed that batteries for the current Ford Mustang Mach-E will be produced at LG Energy Solution’s Michigan facility in 2025, instead of Poland, to enhance business efficiency and capitalize on competitive market conditions, such as the IRA tax credits.

“These agreements attest to our experience and expertise in powering commercial vehicles with innovative battery technologies designed to handle extreme user environments,” says David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution. “Capitalizing on our local production capacity, we will secure leadership in the European market and deliver unmatched values to our customers through advanced battery technologies that effectively address diverse needs.”
