Freezing temperatures will persist across the UK over the next five days, with lows of -16 deg C forecast for the snow fields of Scotland on the night of Jan 9.
The Met Office has issued a number of yellow warnings for snow and ice, covering parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and southern England. Early on Jan 10, an Atlantic front will collide with cold air over the United Kingdom, potentially bringing more snow to the south and west.
The sub-zero conditions are moving into northern France and Germany, with orange alerts for snow and ice also impacting Belgium and the Netherlands. The cold snap is gripping the Nordic region, with an average temperature of -11.3 deg C forecast for Oslo on Jan 12, according to Maxar Technologies Inc.
Much milder weather takes hold across northern Europe from Jan 14. The second half of January is now forecast to be warmer than normal, slowing the depletion of gas inventories across the region. BLOOMBERG
